“This Is What It Must Feel Like To Inherit A Fortune After The Demise Of A Wealthy Relative” - Peter Dutton

Leader Of The Opposition Peter Dutton Has Seen His Popularity Rise To The Level Of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s Unpopularity In The Wake Of Donald Trump’s Election For A Second Presidential Term In The US

Time and time again, civilisations around the world have demonstrated the transcendent wisdom behind Plato’s categorisation of democracy as “the blind leading the blind”. In Book 8 of the Republic, Plato has described the inevitability of a democratic society’s eventual decline into tyranny on account of intrinsic human infirmities which leave the masses at the mercy of their appetites and prejudices. This makes them easy prey for charlatans and demagogues, albeit ones with some charm, charisma or at least the capacity to amuse.

Throughout his decades in “public service”, the Leader of the Opposition in Australia, Peter Dutton, has worked hard to hone his demagoguery and charlatanism, whilst harbouring dangerous delusions regarding his charm and charisma, hoping that when the moment of democracy’s predestined collapse into tyranny finally arrives, he is well-prepared to seize absolute power.

On November 5, 2024, America presented the world with unmistakable signs that democracy may have indeed run its course in the Western world, or at least, in its most significant block. Over the next few days, as Australia, like other Western nations, reckoned with the results of the American Presidential Election and started reconciling with the possibility of its own tyrannical fate, Peter Dutton has seen his political fortunes rise. For the first time in the two and a half years that Dutton has been in his current role, just as many Australians have expressed an intention against tolerating Labor debacles ad infinitum, as the ones indicating to the contrary.

Riding high on his new found popularity, during a recent interview, Dutton explained how the death of American democracy has been a spectacular boon for him, comparing the experience with inheriting an unexpected fortune following the demise of a wealthy relative.

“It’s just inexplicable! Suddenly, not all my relatives are repulsed by me, some of my family members don’t mind being seen with me in public, and some of my colleagues have even told me that they could have chosen me to lead, even if the party wasn’t in complete shambles at the time of the selection!”, a cheerful Dutton remarked.
